Starting next year, New Orleans residents will be able to earn money by recycling tires as part of a new pilot program aimed at curbing illegal tire dumping across the city. Supported by $250,000 in funding from the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and the New Orleans Sanitation Department, the initiative seeks to reduce the thousands of tires illegally discarded each year.

International CSRC Investment Holdings, the parent company of Continental Carbon, is reorganizing its global carbon black production to tackle oversupply in China and address growing demand in other regions. The company is selling its Chongqing facility to Longxing Chemical and is negotiating the sale of its Anshan plant. These moves respond to a surplus in China driven by increased imports of Russian carbon black after the EU banned Russian products.

Researchers at the University of Delaware have introduced an innovative method to address the environmental and health challenges posed by toxic chemicals in end-of-life tires, particularly 6PPD. This molecule, used in tires for UV protection, releases harmful particles during tire wear and landfill decomposition, contaminating waterways and causing significant ecological harm, including fish die-offs.

Shercom Industries, a Saskatoon-based tire recycling company, has initiated legal action against the Province of Saskatchewan, Tire Stewardship of Saskatchewan (TSS), and TSS CEO Stevyn Arnt. The lawsuit, filed on November 8, alleges breach of contract and "injurious falsehoods," seeking $10 million in damages from the province and additional punitive damages from TSS and Arnt.

An international study has identified tire particles (TPs) as the largest source of microplastics, urging targeted research to address their environmental and health risks.
