During the night of August 23–24, a fire broke out at Contec S.A.’s plant in Szczecin, Poland. The company has issued an official statement confirming the incident.

According to the Management Board, ten employees were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported. Thanks to the swift intervention of emergency services, the fire was brought under control. However, damages are significant, and production will not resume in the near future.

In recent months, Contec had reported particularly strong production results, converting 85% of end-of-life tire mass into recovered raw materials, including tire pyrolysis oil (TPO), recovered carbon black (rCB), and steel. These outputs have been integrated into tire manufacturing supply chains, contributing to the circular economy.

The company stated that its current priority is supporting employees, managing post-incident operations, and carrying out a thorough assessment of the situation.

The Board also expressed gratitude for the support and solidarity already shown, while acknowledging the wider impact of the incident on both the company and the industry.

Contec confirmed that further updates will be shared as more information on the operational impact becomes available.
